Corsairs Sneak by Falcons
The UMass Dartmouth hockey team scored early in the third period and held on to top Fitchburg State, 1-0, on Wednesday at the Wallace Civic Center.
Mason Nichols potted the game’s only goal 31 seconds into the final frame for the Corsairs (11-8-1, 8-4-1), while Parker Butler stopped 28 Falcon shots to earn the shutout.
Brian McGrath made 39 saves for FSU (9-9-2, 6-5-2).
Salem State outlasts Fitchburg State men
The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team came up on the losing end of an 81-71 decision to Salem State Wednesday night.
Hakeem Animashaun scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Vikings (13-8, 7-1 MASCAC), while Sean Bryan added 26.
Fitchburg State (8-12, 4-4) was paced by 20 points from Nicholas Tracy. Tyrell St. John added 16 and Tayjuan McKenzie had 11 points in the loss.
The Rams led 39-33 at halftime and held off a Falcon charge late in the second half to secure the victory.
Viking women storm past Falcons
The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team struggled in the second half, falling to Salem State on the road, 76-60, on Wednesday.
Fitchburg State (8-11, 2-6 MASCAC) trailed just 35-32 at halftime, but couldn’t get much going offensively in the third quarter as the Vikings (4-16, 2-6) outscored the hosts 25-6.
Angelina Marazzi scored a game-high 30 points for the Falcons and Catherine Coppinger had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyra Scott led Salem State with 20 points.
