More Airports to Get More Security

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Pressing for improved airline security, the Bush administration says it will begin overhauling more than 130 airports next month.

The Transportation Security Administration, which announced the work Friday, is also beginning to replace private employees with federal screeners at airports.

Federal employees are already screening passengers at:

_Baltimore-Washington

_Louisville, Ky.

_Mobile, Ala.

Federal screeners will be hired at eight more airports next week:

_Charlotte, N.C.

_Cincinnati

_Cleveland

_Minneapolis

_Philadelphia

_Pittsburgh

_Raleigh, N.C.

_Tampa, Fla.

Passenger checkpoints will be redesigned at the following airports:

_Juneau, Nome, Unalaska-Dutch Harbor, Wiley Post/Will Rogers and Wrangell, Alaska

_Birmingham and Northwest Alabama

_Little Rock, Ark.

_Laughlin-Bullhead City, Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.

_Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena, Orange County, Long Beach, Ontario, Redding, Sacramento and San Diego, Calif.

_Colorado Springs, Colo.

_Hartford, Conn.

_Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Jacksonville, Miami, Sarasota-Bradenton, Southwest Florida, St. Petersburg-Clearwater and West Palm Beach, Fla.
