Douglas County woman accused of exploiting mother, 74
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A 49-year-old Douglas County woman has been arrested on charges accusing her of embezzling more than $5,000 from her elderly mother.
Attorney General Adam Laxalt announced Friday Sheri Hines was charged Monday on one count each of suspicion of theft, embezzlement and exploitation of an older person.
She’s accused of taking money that was intended for the care and comfort of her 74-year-old mother, Sharon Mayes, between January and June of last year.
Laxalt says she used her mother’s bank card to withdraw money from her account, including at ATM machines in the Wa She Shu and Sharkey’s casinos in Gardnerville. He says she converted the funds for her own personal use.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Hines has a lawyer or will be appointed one at a pending court appearance.
