Crofton man killed in accident

CEADR COUNTY - A Crofton man was killed Thursday as a result of a traffic accident in northern Cedar County.

According to Sheriff Larry Koranda, a 2012 GMC pickup being driven by 28-year-old Kyle Mueller was southbound on Highway 81 and turned east toward 898th Road colliding with a 1994 Peterbuilt semi-truck pulling an empty grain trailer.

The semi was driven by 28-year-old Scott Howard of Norfolk.

Mueller was pronounced dead at the scene. Howard was not injured.

Only Howard was wearing his seatbelt.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene, along with Crofton Fire & Rescue, Yankton Fire and EMS and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The accident remains under investigation.
