CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — A week of worry at Clemson over an approaching hurricane ended with a 38-7 victory over Georgia Southern in front of a full crowd. Travis Etienne ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns for the No. 2 Tigers and Trevor Lawrence threw for 194 yards. Clemson starting quarterback Kelly Bryant left the game after falling hard in the second quarter. Clemson was the only major conference school in the Carolinas and Virginia to play today as former Hurricane Florence pummeled much of the region with heavy rain and flooding.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — No. 3 Georgia overwhelmed Middle Tennessee 49-7 in a warmup for the Bulldogs’ stretch of seven straight Southeastern Conference games. Jake Fromm mm threw three touchdown passes and Elijah Holyfield ran for 100 yards, each playing only the first half. The game was originally was scheduled to be played tonight but was moved to a noon kickoff due to Florence.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Kyler Murray threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns and No. 5 Oklahoma held off Iowa State 37-27 in the Big 12 opener for both teams. Marquise Brown had 191 yards receiving and a TD for the Sooners, who extended the nation’s longest road winning streak to 17 games while avenging a stunning home loss to the Cyclones a year ago.
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Malik Rosier threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more as No. 21 Miami outlasted upset-minded Toledo 49-24. The Hurricanes never trailed and led 21-0 late in the first half, but Toledo twice pulled back to within a touchdown. Rosier threw for 205 yards and ran for 80, and Jeff Thomas had five catches for 105 yards and a TD. The Hurricanes lost standout safety Jaquan Johnson late in the second quarter to an apparent injury.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has taken part in practice for the first time this week after being held out with a left knee injury. Rodgers practiced today after being held out on Wednesday and Thursday to focus on rehab ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Friday was a day off. Rodgers is listed as questionable after spraining his knee in the second quarter of last week’s season opener against Chicago.
