Jefferson prepares for Gemuetlichkeit

September 11, 2018

JEFFERSON — Operating under the theme “Jeder Liebt Eine Parade,” or “Everyone Loves a Parade,” Jefferson’s signature fall event, Gemuetlichkeit Days, is prepping for kick-off Friday.

The event runs through Sunday throughout the city, but has its headquarters at the Jefferson County Fair Park.

“Gemuetlichkeit Days is a community festival to build spirit and unity by celebrating our German heritage in a family-friendly atmosphere,” organizers said. “We look forward to spending our 48th year with everyone.”

According to Judy Wollin of the festival, the Jefferson Fire Department will have on display its 1927 fire truck.

“They will also be holding their dice game, ages 18 and up, of which the proceeds will go toward the restoration of the truck,” said. “It will be on display Friday and Saturday. Jim Ganser of Two Guys Trimming and Mike Landers will be holding a chain saw competition on Saturday at 11 a.m. It is for ages 18 and up — bring your own chain saw and all participants will need to sign a waiver.”

Wollin said all fest bands will be great and, “We have another awesome king and queen who are bringing lots of enthusiasm and energy to the festival.”

“We have a great parade on Sunday,” she said. “Everyone is having a wonderful time meeting up with their friends either at a local establishment for drinks or a family gathering at someone’s home. And that is what gemuetlichkeit is all about — good times, good friends, good music.”
