Mass. Sues Airline Over Fuel Spill
BOSTON (AP) _ Massachusetts officials want American Airlines to pay a $25,000 for failing to report a fuel leak at Logan Airport, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday.
According to the lawsuit, which represents one side of a legal argument, the airline failed to report the spill of 7,500 gallons of fuel from a storage tank and some of the fuel may have flowed into Boston Harbor.
American Airlines did not return two calls on Thursday.
According to the lawsuit, a worker noticed fuel leaking from an American Airlines storage tank on or about Aug. 21, 1998, and reported it to the airline.
American Airlines failed to report the leak to the state Department of Environmental Protection, as required by law, the lawsuit said.
State law requires that any spill be reported within two hours.
