Friday Playlist: Songs That Get Stuck In Your Head
Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Playlist where members of the Times-Tribune staff submit their music picks base on a theme. This week’s theme is Earworms… Songs that get stuck in your head. Enjoy: Orange Juice - Rip it Up Ted Baird It was the first song that came to mind.... and it’s still stuck in there Grateful Dead - Alabama Getaway Chad Sebring This song is just a basic blues tune with a cool little turnaround but it rips ... and Jerry Garcia singing, “Before I have to hit him, I hope he’s got the sense to run.” Once this one is in my head, it’s there for days. The Firm - Star Trekkin’ Across the Universe Jim Lockwood There’s Klingons on the starboard bow. It’s life Jim, but not as we know it. It’s worse than that - he’s dead, Jim. We come in peace; shoot to kill. Ya cannot change the laws of physics. Wild Man Fischer - Merry Go Round Jim Haggerty The photo may clue you into the fact that Fischer suffered from mental illness all his life. He was an LA street musician discovered by Frank Zappa, who recorded and produced an album by Fischer in 1968. Zappa was alternately vilified for trying to cash in on the musical rants of a madman and praised for his efforts toward outreach and inclusion among those with mental illness. Some actually praised Fischer’s work. The debate was never settled. Warning: This short, repetitive and grating ditty will stay with you if you listen. Chumbawamba - Tubthumping David Singleton Yep.
