Genealogist to speak Oct. 10 at Oak Crest
DeKALB – The DeKalb County Historical Genealogical Society is bringing in a guest genealogist for a special free presentation Oct. 10 at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive.
Laura Street Chaplin will present “DNA and Genealogy Research 101 with Laura” at 7 p.m. in the little theater at the retirement center.
Chaplin, whose company is Willowtree Research: Family History Tutoring and Genealogical Research, has been doing genealogy since her college days at Boston University and decided to pursue it as her profession, according to a news release from the genealogical society. She is the history keeper and genealogy manager at the Elburn Library.
Chaplin will discuss the basics of genealogy, and she’ll provide insight on popular companies and websites that work in genealogy. People who attend the event are encouraged to bring questions to learn more about their family’s DNA.
