Enforcing city codes for safety, appearance
Nestled between South Hanna and John streets exists what Fort Wayne officials have described as one of the worst dump sites they have ever seen.
Trash cans and full dumpsters sit behind the peeling white commercial space. A thin buffer of lush trees and shrubs contain and separate the piles of trash from the quiet Tamara Gardens Apartments nearby.
But the situation at 6901 S. Hanna St. is beginning to change, thanks to the work of Neighborhood Code Compliance officers and the cooperation of church officials, city leaders said last week.
“Oh my goodness,” Community Development Director Cindy Joyner said when she saw the piles of detritus during a ride-along The Journal Gazette took with Neighborhood Code Compliance April 17.
