Venezuela 11, Dominican Republic 1

CULIACAN, Mexico (AP) _ Miguel Nieves hit two home runs that led Venezuela to an 11-1 victory over the Dominican Republic on Saturday in the second day of the Caribbean Series.

Ramon Hernandez homered for the second straight day and Miguel Cairo also connected for Venezuela (1-1). Jolbert Cabrera added a triple and a double.

Tony Batista homered for the Dominicans (0-2).

Mexico and Puerto Rico, both 1-0, played in the night game.

Venezuela scored in each of the first six innings and finished with 14 hits.

Randy Espina pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings and won in relief of starter Mike Romano.

Amaury Telemaco started for the Dominicans and took the loss, giving up four runs and six hits in three innings.
