The Hearst Movie & A Martini group will see the French thriller “Custody” at the Avon Theatre.
The screening is presented by Focus on French Cinema which is sponsored by the Alliance Francaise of Greenwich.
The film follows a bitter custody battle where both parents are seeking sole possession of their son. The boy, Julian, is played by Thomas Gioria, in an acclaimed performance. Julian becomes the linchpin as he tries to control the violent battle between his parents, Miriam (Lea Drucker) and Antoine (Denis Menochet).
Writer-director Xavier Legrand has said the influences on his story include “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “The Shining” and “Night of the Hunter.” The movie won Legrand the Silver Lion for best director at the Venice Film Festival.
The Avon program will also include the short film “Pepe Le Morse” which won last year’s Cesar Award (the French equivalent of the Oscars). Hearst feature writer Joe Meyers will moderate a discussion after the movie.
