No. 13 Penn St. 82, Michigan 65
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) _ Tiffany Longworth scored a career-high 21 points, including 12 in the first half, as No. 13 Penn State cruised to an 82-65 victory over Michigan Friday night.
The Nittany Lions (17-4, 8-3 Big Ten) jumped to a 24-8 lead in the first half and weren’t threatened by the Wolverines (8-14, 3-9), despite being ahead just 41-30 at halftime.
Every time Michigan started to make a run, Penn State quickly answered with a streak of its own.
Tina Nicholson, who keyed the early onslaught for the Nittany Lions, hit her first four shots and scored all nine of her points in the opening six minutes of the game. Michigan didn’t score its ninth point until almost 10 minutes into the contest.
The Wolverines were led by Molly Murray with 18 points and Akisha Franklin with 13.
The win was the seventh in eight games for Penn State, which got back on track after a 57-43 loss at No. 17 Purdue. The teams tied for the Big Ten title a year ago and have been involved, with Wisconsin, in a three-team battle for the conference title.
