Sutherland Springs killer had earlier threatened his mother-in-law

February 7, 2018

Sutherland Springs killer Devin Patrick Kelley had threatened his mother-in-law and her family months before he opened fire in the First Baptist Church on Nov. 5 and killed 26 people.

Kelley threatened harm to Michelle Shields, the mother of his second wife, Danielle Shields, if she tried to see their newborn baby last May.

Kelley had a violent past. He was sentenced to confinement by the Air Force for abusing his first wife and fracturing his stepson’s skull in 2012. Kelley received a bad conduct discharge and was kicked out of the Air Force in 2014, the same year he married Danielle.

In and exclusive interview, Michelle Shields said Kelley was controlling and abusive and monitored Danielle’s calls with her in the months before the church massacre.
