Platform Beer Co. wins Cleveland Oktoberfest people’s-choice honors

BEREA, Ohio – Platform Beer Co. took people’s-choice honors as best brewery at Cleveland Oktoberfest.

The four-day fest, held annually over Labor Day weekend at Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, kicks off with a blind-judging competition on Friday night. But festgoers have all four days to vote on their favorite, and this year they tabbed the Cleveland brewery as their choice.

“We brew a variety of beers,” co-owner Paul Benner said. “It allows for a lot of different flavors, a lot of experimentation.”

Platform brought six beers plus a firkin, a smaller cask, to the fest.

It wasn’t the only award Platform won. In the blind-judging category, the brewery earned a first place in the dark lagers / bock category for its Luchador Black Lager, a lager with salt brewed in collaboration with Eric Williams of Momocho.

Last year, Masthead Brewing Co. – in its first year of existence – took the people’s-choice award.

Here are the 2018 winners by category.
