Fitness can be fun
If Saturday’s Fit N Fun festival put on by the Daily News was any indication, there were a myriad of ways for children to have fun — and get some exercise, too.
Hundreds of children — along with parents and grandparents — turned out for the annual event at the Chuck S. Pohlman Ag Complex on the Northeast Community College campus that is put on by this newspaper with the help of many other sponsors and participating organizations, including the Norfolk Lions Club and Norfolk Family YMCA.
Large numbers of spectators watched Sam the Wheeler perform his routine that combines agility, timing and physical strength. Participants at the festival also were given the opportunity to try their hand on the wheel — with his guidance.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s table tennis club played their fast-paced version at the festival. There were three representatives from the university on hand for the demonstrations.
All kinds of activities were available for children, including a human foosball game that drew lots of participants.
Other events included water balloon launching, face painting, a laser maze, archery, fishing, a duck run, big wheel races and much more.
