Strong Week Earns Colvin Recognition
Fitchburg State sophomore pitcher Taylor Colvin was named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The Lancaster native and Nashoba Regional grad collects her second weekly accolade on the year after posting an ERA of 1.84, going 2-0 with four strikeouts over 8.1 innings pitched. Colvin allowed just one run one four hits with four Ks over five innings of work in a 9-1, game triumph over Plymouth State on Thursday before picking up her second win on the week after giving up one hit in 3.1 innings of relief in a 2-1 victory over MCLA on Saturday.
The Falcons (16-8, 4-0 MASCAC) return to action on Wednesday, hosting Worcester State for a MASCAC doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
Fitchburg State sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead was tabbed MASCAC Men’s Outdoor Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The second-year Falcon picks up his first weekly accolade on the season after placing first overall in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying mark of 2.07 meters as Fitchburg State hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field on Saturday.
McWhinnie-Armstead is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the event.
The Fitchburg State men’s outdoor track and field team returns to action Friday at Connecticut College for a meet starting at 4 p.m.
