North Ridgeville police arrest man after 4-hour standoff

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio -- A North Ridgeville man surrendered peacefully Tuesday after an hours-long standoff with police.

Piankhi Bruce, 37, is being held in the Lorain County Jail on a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge of domestic violence, according to North Ridgeville police Captain Marti Garrow.

Police were called about 9:15 a.m. to a home on the 8800 block of Gatestone Road for a domestic violence complaint, Garrow said. When officers arrived, Bruce refused to speak with police and stayed inside the home.

Bruce was on parole and officers believed he may have possessed a firearm.

After about four hours of negotiations, Bruce surrendered and was arrested without incident, police said.

No firearms were found in the home, Garrow said.

The Lorain County Adult Parole Authority was at the scene during the negotiations and subsequent search of the home. The Lorain County SWAT team was placed on standby, Garrow said.
