FC Dallas stays perfect, beats 10-man Philadelphia 2-0
Chester, Pennsylvania (AP) — Tesho Akindele and Ryan Hollingshead scored in the second half as FC Dallas beat a 10-man Philadelphia Union 2-0 in Major League Soccer on Saturday.
FC Dallas is the only MLS team with maximum points after its first three matches.
Canadian-born Akindele, the 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year, forced a defensive turnover in the 49th minute, gathered his deflection, and slid in a breakaway goal. Hollingshead added his first MLS score in the 59th.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but it was postponed due to poor weather conditions.
Vancouver’s Raul Octavio Rivero scored with a header in the 96th minute to lift the Whitecaps over Orlando City 1-0.
Pedro Morales sent a free kick toward the goal and Rivero redirected it past Orlando City goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
In Carson, California, Robbie Keane and Nathan Sturgis traded early goals as the Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo settled for a 1-1.
Keane opened the scoring in the third minute, beating Sturgis with a cut near the top of the box and finishing despite goalkeeper Tyler Deric’s deflection.
Sturgis answered in the 11th minute for the Dynamo. David Horst headed Oscar Garcia’s corner kick back into the middle of the 6-yard box and Sturgis ran underneath it for an easy finish.
In other games, Sporting Kansas City and the Portland Timbers, New York City and the Colorado Avalanche, and the Montreal Impact and New England Revolution all ended their matches with scoreless draws.
