Walter L. Joseph
Walter L. Joseph, 82, of Watertown, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Marquardt Health Center.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Family and friends may gather from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Mark’s Church or to the family. Walter Lee Joseph was born on May 4, 1936, to Walter and Elsie (nee Prochnow) Joseph in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Upon graduating from Greeley (Colorado) High School, he served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1958 as a reciprocating engine mechanic. He married the late Marian Joseph (nee Buske) on June 6, 1959, who preceded him in death on June 5, 1986. He later married Kathleen J. Janus (nee Beck) on Nov. 25, 1992. During his working years, Walter served as a parts manager for Darcey Implement Co. of Watertown (1959-1964), a territory sales manager for Behlen Manufacturing Co. of Columbus, Nebraska (1964-1972), an outside salesman for Miller Auto Parts of Watertown (1972-1983) and owner of his golf car sales and repair business (1983-1992). He ended his working career making custom furniture at The Custom Shoppe in Watertown until his retirement. Walt was a longtime member of the Watertown Outboarders Boat Club and the Watertown Country Club, where he spent the majority of his leisure time. Son of a parochial school teacher, Walt ensured his children were also brought up to know their Savior and remained true in his faith until God called him home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Joseph; daughters, Kim (Paul) Pappenfuss of Sun City, Arizona, Jane (John) Seeber of Watertown and Kay (Keith) Strauss of Watertown; grandchildren, Sam (Karis) Pappenfuss, Krista (Josh) Pappenfuss, Remington (Rachel) Pappenfuss, Isaac (Monica) Pappenfuss, Brenna Seeber, Kyle Strauss and Nicole Strauss; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Lorene Morlok of David City, Nebraska, and James Joseph of Oconomowoc; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Joseph of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Lorena Joseph of Columbus, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, William Timm of Watertown and Harvey Buske of Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian Joseph; parents; parents-in-law; brothers, Wilbur Joseph, Herbert (and Gloria) Joseph, Edwin (and Vivian) Joseph, Gerald Joseph, Louis (and Phyllis) Joseph and Ervin Joseph (in infancy); sister, Dolores Timm; sisters-in-law, Fay Joseph and Jean Buske; brothers-in-law, Herb Morlok, Edgar (and Ruth) Buske and Edwin (and Joan) Buske.
