Baker begins process of filling up his cabinet
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov.-elect Charlie Baker is beginning the process of building his new administration on Beacon Hill by tapping Chelsea city manager Jay Ash as his first cabinet pick.
His campaign confirmed Tuesday that Baker, a Republican, has chosen the Democrat to lead the housing and economic development agency.
The agency says its goal is to help create homes and jobs in the state in part by making sure Massachusetts maintains its global competitive edge.
Ash will replace Secretary Greg Bialecki, who was appointed to the post by Gov. Deval Patrick.
Baker takes office in January.
Baker has already reached out to Democratic leaders on Beacon Hill and has said he will work in a bipartisan manner when he takes control of the state’s top political office.
