22-year-old Nebraska woman dies in Interstate 80 crash near downtown Lincoln
A 22-year-old Crete, Nebraska, woman died Sunday just west of downtown Lincoln when her sport utility vehicle crashed on Interstate 80.
Lourdes D. Bautista was pronounced dead at the scene near mile marker 400, Lincoln police said. A passenger, Sophia Mendoza, 19, of Crete, was taken to Bryan Medical Center in critical condition. A hospital spokeswoman said on Monday that Mendoza was in fair condition.
Investigators determined Bautista was driving a 2013 Ford Escape westbound on I-80 shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday when it struck a concrete barrier. The SUV continued north through the westbound lanes and down the embankment before striking a concrete drain cover.
