Oakland comes up short against Coquille

September 2, 2018

OAKLAND — Coquille proved too strong for Oakland in the season opener Friday, winning 12-6 at Eddy Field.

Oakland (0-1) led 6-0 at halftime, but Coquille (1-0) scored one touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory.

“We knew Coquille was tough,” Oakland coach Ben Lane said. “They’re a good ballclub and I was impressed we went out there toe-to-toe with some of the best defensive football players in the state.”

Corbin Picknell scored the lone TD for the Oakers and led the team in rushing with 57 yards on eight carries.

Defensively, Oakland was led by Will Powell with 20 tackles — five for losses — and he caused a fumble. Jacob Brooksby made 13 tackles.

Oakland will play at Reedsport next Friday.
