PENNSYLVANIA DIOCESES-SEX ABUSE INVESTIGATION
HARRISBURG — A report into child sexual abuse in six Pennsylvania Roman Catholic dioceses is expected to be made public in the coming days, although some of it will be blacked out. By Mark Scolforo. SENT: About 800 words.
MEADVILLE — Sunday afternoon and the buzz of conversation in the garden, the rustle of tweed, the gentle thwack of mallet striking ball: croquet season in Meadville. And for those who couldn’t sense the intensity of competitive lawn sports in the air, a leisurely stroll quickly revealed it. The scene resembled a historical postcard from the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club come to life in Tool City: ladies with parasols, gentlemen with suspenders and knickers, all wielding mallets beneath the shady trees. If you were not aware that the last Sunday in July is the day Meadville turns back the fashion clock and pauses to play croquet, you could be forgiven this time — but mark your calendars for next year. Mike Crowley, The Meadville Tribune. SENT: About 980 words.
CHILD STRUCK IN DRIVEWAY — Authorities say a 3-year-old girl was accidentally struck and killed in the driveway of her western Pennsylvania home.
SAN DIEGO — The Philadelphia Phillies finish their series against the San Diego Padres. UPCOMING: 600 words, photos. Game starts 12:40 p.m. PT.
SAN FRANCISCO — Rookie right-hander Dereck Rodriguez (5-1, 2.34 ERA) pitches the series finale for San Francisco against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who earned their 13th shutout with a 4-0 win Saturday night. By Michael Wagaman. UPCOMING: 700 words, photos. Starts 1:05 p.m. PDT
