MU tennis wraps up fall at C of C Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Marshall University completed its fall women’s tennis schedule Sunday at the College of Charleston Classic.

Anna Smith led Marshall with two singles victories and one doubles win.

Smith defeated Samford’s Grace Jennings in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (3), then beat Lily LaBiche from College of Charleston in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).

Madi Ballow and Smith combined for a doubles win against Jessie Mount/Alicja Zduniak from Coastal Carolina, 6-3.

Victoria Walter defeated Viktorija Demcenkova of Coastal Carolina in singles, 6-3, 6-3. Liz Stefanic downed Maria Khomchenko from Coastal Carolina, 6-1, 6-4.

Ballow beat Clara Errard from College of Charleston, 6-4, 7-5.

Women’s soccer

HUNTINGTON — Carlos Diaz-Salcedo from Marshall made the Conference USA men’s soccer All-Academic Team.

The Thundering Herd junior defender from Barcelona, Spain, has a 3.73 GPA as an international business and finance major.

Diaz-Salcedo has started all 16 matches this season and played 1,479 minutes.

He scored a goal in a loss at Butler and assisted on the goal in a 1-0 win against Ohio State.

Marshall meets FIU at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the C-USA tournament first round at Charlotte, North Carolina.
