BASEL, Switzerland (AP) _ Top-seeded Guillermo Coria lost to Belgian qualifier Kristof Vliegen in the Swiss Indoors on Thursday, hurting the Argentine's chances of making the season-ending Masters Cup.

Coria saved his serve and two match points at 4-5 in the second set. Two games later, however, he missed a long forehand to give Vliegen a 7-6 (0), 7-5 victory in the second-round match.

Coria was the top-seeded player because Roger Federer and French Open champion Rafael Nadal withdrew. Coria, who has nine career titles and played in three finals this season, needed to reach at least the semifinals here to add points to his Masters Cup total.

Sixth in the Masters Cup standings, he still has a shot at one of the last three berths in the eight-player field next month in Shanghai, China.
