Dzeko scores twice, Bosnia beats Ivory Coast
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Edin Dzeko scored twice in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on Friday night, as the Balkan nation warms up for its first World Cup appearance.
Dzeko tapped into an empty net in the 17th minute after an Ivory Coast defender blocked a shot by Zvjezdan Misimovic, before controlling Miralem Pjanic’s hard pass in the 53rd minute to score just inside the left post.
Ivory Coast veteran striker Didier Drogba narrowed the final margin, scoring with a superb free kick in the 91st minute after coming on in the second half.
This was Bosnia’s second appearance in six months in St. Louis, where it’s estimated more than 30,000 Bosnians relocated from the former war-torn Yugoslavia. It lost to Argentina 2-0 at the Edward Jones Dome in November.
