From the Santa Fe New Mexican:

Jan. 26, 1969: Robert O. Anderson, Roswell millionaire who recently purchased most of the property in Lamy, held a private cocktail party to christen his new restaurant, the Legal Tender Steak House (formerly the Pink Garter Saloon), Friday evening.

About 150 guests were greeted by the door by Anderson and John Meigs, Hondo Valley artist who handled the redecoration of the old Lamy saloon in an amazing record at just 16 days.

Jan. 26, 1994: More and more New Mexico students are reporting they can’t seem to “just say no” to drugs and alcohol, state officials in the Children, Youth and Families Department said Tuesday.

Officials noted during a morning news conference that, based on a survey commissioned by the department, alcohol continues to be the drug of choice among New Mexico students — while cigarette and marijuana use is increasing.
