W-B Man Killed In Early Morning Crash
A Wilkes-Barre man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Ashley Borough early Thursday, according to police.
Christian Barrientos, 23, of Hayes Lane, was killed when his vehicle crashed into a building at 113 N. Main St. shortly after 2 a.m., police said. Nobody else was inside the car.
Police say Barrientos was driving a 1998 Honda Civic northbound on Main Street when he lost control of the car while negotiating a curve in the road.
The car left the road and jumped a curb before hitting the building, police said.
Barrientos, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Luzerne County Deputy Coroner George Strish.
Police say they believe speed was a factor. Shortly before the crash, Barrientos passed an Ashley police officer who was at the Family Dollar on South Main Street.
After Barrientos passed, the officer heard the car quickly speed up, police said.
Barrientos was driving with a suspended license, according to police.
