Witness At Murder Scene Says ‘Hey, That’s Him’

December 17, 1995

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ A paroled cop killer allegedly returned to the scene of a killing just in time to be identified by a witness.

Philip Lenford Allen changed clothes and ``came back figuring that nobody could identify him,″ said police Sgt. John Parker.

Officers were questioning the witness to Saturday’s stabbing death when Allen strolled past leading a pit bull on a leash.

``The witness tells us, `Hey, there he is right there,‴ Parker said.

The dog on Allen’s leash was the same one he had with him during a fight connected to the stabbing, Parker said.

Police went to a house where Allen was staying and found blood on the gate, while inside were bloodstained clothes and a knife, Parker said.

Allen, 40, had moved to Sacramento recently while on parole from a conviction for killing a police officer in Los Angeles.

``I like them like this,″ Parker said of the arrest. ``This was real easy.″
