You really need to see ‘Newsies’
Have you heard the news about “Newsies”?
It’s the latest production of the Kankakee Valley Theatre Association and among the finest yet among the always excellent work done by the local acting troupe.
It enjoyed a rousing start to its two-weekend run at the Lincoln Cultural Center last Saturday and Sunday. Standing ovations greeted the talented thespians as they began the show, and the level of enthusiasm displayed by the audience didn’t diminish as the show progressed.
In some ways, that’s no surprise. In a Daily Journal preview story written last week by Aryana Adkanian, co-director Paula Sutter explained just how deep the talent pool runs for “Newsies.’’
“We’ve got a stellar cast,” Sutter said. “The talent is from top to bottom. We have 50 cast members, and there isn’t a weak one in the cast.’’
Of course, seeing is believing, and two chances to see the show remain.
It will return to the LCC at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. It has drawn large crowds thus far, so you might want to purchase tickets in advance or arrive early on show night to get a seat.
