‘Parks aLive’ provides three days of free summer fun
IRONTON — The free summer park program “Parks aLive Summer Fun” was held in July at Etna Park.
The free activities in the park were for all children ages 3 to 12. The fun included face painting, games, sidewalk chalk art and featured a special skateboard contest on Wednesday, July 11, and a bike rodeo with instructor Matt Herbert on the final day of the Summer Fun program on Thursday, July 12. Every day included free lunch and plenty of cool refreshments for the children.
Impact Prevention and Ironton on the Move joined forces to offer local children a three-day summer camp including life skills, mentoring, games, prizes, free lunch and summer fun, staffed by volunteers.
“It was a chance to give children a break from their summer break, and visit one of our city parks,” Sam Heighton, event coordinator and Ironton aLive executive director, said in a news release. “With the success of this first-time event, we expect to make it an annual event and thank all of those that made it work. This event was a good example of many organizations and volunteers working together toward the same goal.”
Two bicycles donated by Lawrence County Juvenile Court for 3-to 6-year-old attendees were won by Amara Edens and Zaine Grahm.
Two bicycles donated by Central Hardware for 7-to-12-yearold attendees were won by Karie Wetzel and Jason Young.
