Trooper held after arraignment on domestic violence charges
GARDNER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts state trooper accused of injuring his girlfriend in a domestic violence incident that began with an argument over loud music during his birthday party has been ordered held until a dangerousness hearing.
A not guilty plea was entered for Corey Benoit on Monday during in Gardner District Court. A judge scheduled a hearing for Wednesday to determine if bail would be set.
The off-duty trooper was arrested early Sunday morning after the altercation at his Royalston home that started after he asked his girlfriend to turn down the volume of the music at the party. Authorities say the woman, who has been named, suffered a broken collarbone.
Benoit’s attorney, Leonard Kesten, said his client pushed the woman after she bit him.
Benoit has been relieved of duty pending an internal hearing.
