Woman charged after trooper dragged by vehicle
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — A Delaware woman has been charged with vehicular assault and other crimes after a state trooper was dragged by a vehicle while directing traffic.
Delaware State Police said 52-year-old Yira Graciano-Toala of Wilmington was taken into custody on Friday. She was charged with disregarding a police officer’s signal, reckless driving, reckless endangering, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, vehicular assault and tampering with physical evidence.
Graciano-Toala was arraigned and released on $15,600 unsecured bail.
Authorities say the trooper was directing traffic at an intersection on Monday because of malfunctioning lights when he had an encounter with the driver of a stopped vehicle. The driver then took off, dragging the trooper about a tenth of a mile. He was treated for minor injuries.
