Area teams set to hit field for Aiken County Scrimmage
The annual Aiken County tune up has arrived.
Five of the seven Aiken County high schools and Williston-Elko will take the field at L.L. Willis Stadium on the campus of Midland Valley High School on Friday night for the Aiken County Scrimmage. The games are set to start at 7 p.m.
This year the scrimmage will have a slightly different format than previous seasons. Since there are only six participating teams, there will be three matchups each lasting two quarters.
Wagener-Salley will face Silver Bluff in the first half. That game will be followed up by Williston-Elko vs. Aiken. Host Midland Valley will play Ridge Spring-Monetta in the final half of the night. The matchups will serve as a final scrimmage for most participants before the regular season opens on Aug. 17.
North Augusta and South Aiken will not be participating in the scrimmage as part of the punishment from an altercation after a game last October.
As part of the punishment handed down by the South Carolina High School League, North Augusta and South Aiken were limited to one scrimmage this preseason and were not allowed to participate in any scrimmages or jamborees where admission is charged.
