Clear Creek’s Crookston claims 6A singles title
Clear Creek’s Carter Crookston made quick work of all three of his opponents in the University Interscholastic League state tennis tournament to emerge as the Class 6A boys’ state singles champion this past Saturday in College Station.
Crookston, a junior, posted three consecutive straight-set wins to become the Wildcats’ first state singles champion since 1980.
Crookston opened play Friday with a 6-4, 6-3 quarterfinal victory over Daniel French of Austin Westlake before taking a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Garrett Skelly of The Woodlands in the semifinals.
On Saturday morning, Crookston won the championship match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kyle Totorica of San Antonio Reagan.
