Olympic Soccer Fields Worrying
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) _ The U.S. men’s soccer team’s first two games at the Sydney Olympics might be moved from Canberra because the field isn’t playable.
Turf imported from Cairns, in northern Australia, for the field at Bruce Stadium went into ``shock″ in Canberra’s cold, Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates said Tuesday.
The U.S. men are slated to play their first Olympic match at Canberra on Sept. 13, against the Czech Republic, then face Cameroon there three days later.
Organizers were expected to decide Wednesday or Thursday whether to move the games to another stadium or lay new turf.
The stadium is usually used for rugby matches.
Olympic soccer tournament games will also be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
