Rain Soaks Southern California, Snow in Michigan, Pennsylvania

Undated (AP) _ Rainfall soaked southern California on Thursday, while snow dusted upper Michigan and the mountains of central Pennsylvania.

Rainshowers extended over northern California, central Nevada, southwest Utah and Arizona into southeast California.

Heavy rain threatened to cause street flooding in Los Angeles, while to the east showers drenched an area from south of Tehachapi to near Lake Isabella.

Showers were expected to change to snow over the mountains of northern and central California.

Rain also was scattered over western Kentucky during the morning, and snow was falling across higher elevations of north-central Pennsylvania.

Snowshowers changed to rain over upper Michigan.

There were no reports of measurable snowfall during the six hours ending at 1 p.m. EST. Heavier rainfall during the same six hours included .58 inch at Stockton, Calif. Other reports were one-third of an inch or less.

Cloudy skies covered much of New England, the Great Lakes and the northen Plains. Sunshine prevailed over much of the remainder of the nation.

Temperatures at 2 p.m. EST ranged from 34 degrees at Bradford, Pa., to 86 degrees at Cotulla, Tex. The morning low was 15 at West Yellowstone, Mont.

Friday’s forecast called for rainshowers over the lower Great Lakes and upper Michigan, from northwest Texas across New Mexico, northern Arizona, Utah and the southwest third of Colorado, and cloudy skies over the northern and central Pacific Coast, the remainder of the Rockies and the upper Ohio Valley.

High temperatures were expected to reach near 40 degrees across northern Maine, the 40s and 50s from the remainder of New England across Maryland, the northern Appalachians, the Great Lakes, the upper Mississippi Valley, much of North Dakota and the northern coast of Washington, the 80s across the southern half of Florida, western Louisiana, much of Texas and the desert Southwest., and the 60s and 70s elsewhere.
