KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) _ Eastman Chemical Co. announced Monday it would build a plant in San Roque, Spain, to manufacture polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, which is used in plastic soft drink bottles.
The plant will be built by Eastman Chemical’s Spanish affiliate Eastman Chemical Espana, S.A.
Harry Holliman, vice president and general manager of Eastman Chemical’s Container Plastics Business Organization, said construction will begin in 1995 and should be completed the following year.
Eastman Chemical manufacturers PET at three sites in North America and two in the United Kingdom. The company, which is headquartered in Kingsport, manufactures more than 400 chemicals, fibers and plastics.
