TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Scott Mellanby scored two goals as Florida snapped a five-game winless streak with a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay on Friday night, sending the Lightning to their seventh straight loss.

Mellanby put the Panthers up 1-0 at 8:38 of the second period. The forward scored on a wrist shot from along the goal line near the left-wing boards.

Mellanby’s second goal came with 13:21 left in the third period and put the Panthers up 2-0. The goal came just 17 seconds after a video review determined a shot by Tampa Bay’s Darcy Tucker that hit the post did not completely cross the goal line.

Stephane Richer scored the Lightning goal during a 5-on-3 power play at 10:22 of the third period.

The victory was the Panthers’ first in seven games at Tampa Bay (1-3-3).

Both goalies came up big during a scoreless first period, in which Florida outshot Tampa Bay 13-7.

Tampa Bay’s Bill Ranford stopped Bill Lindsay on a breakaway and Oleg Kvasha’s partial breakaway. The Panthers’ Sean Burke turned aside Richer’s shorthanded partial breakaway.

Florida defenseman Robert Svehla preserved the scoreless tie early in the second period, using his stick to stop a point-blank shot by Richer.

The injury-depleted Lightning, who were missing six regulars, could be getting some help on Sunday. Mikael Renberg (thumb), Kjell Samuelsson (foot) and Wendel Clark (groin) are listed as probable for Sunday’s game against Buffalo.
