Player from 2nd-division club killed in Brazil
SAO PAULO (AP) — A player from a second-division club in Brazil has been shot to death after an altercation with another man at a party.
Authorities say 27-year-old Edson Piaui, who had just been released by Boa Esporte Clube, was killed early Saturday in a small city in northeastern Brazil. The man allegedly followed Piaui to a restaurant and shot him five times.
Police said details of what led to the fight were not immediately available.
Piaui’s brother, who is a local police officer, was also shot and was hospitalized. His condition was not known.
Authorities said they were searching for the man suspected in the shooting.
After being released by Boa Esporte Clube earlier this week, Piaui signed with Rio Claro to play in the Sao Paulo state championship next year.
