BENNINGTON -- A solo home run by Addie Barnard lifted Beatrice to a 1-0 win over Raymond Central Thursday night.
The win capped a two game sweep for the Lady O during a triangular in Bennington. Beatrice won the early game over Bennington 8-1.
Barnard’s blast against Raymond Central came in the sixth inning after neither team had been able to score through the first five innings.
Rylee Pangborn and Addie Barnard combined to pitch the shutout for Beatrice in the circle. Pangborn pitched 3.2 innings, giving up no runs on four hits while striking out four and walking none.
Barnard pitched 3.1 innings and gave up no runs on no hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Beatrice had eight hits in the game. In addition to Barnard’s home run, Hannah Lytle had three singles, Olivia Aden had two singles and Morgan Mahoney and Carley Leners had one single each.
In the early game against Bennington, Beatrice bolted out to an early lead with six runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to lead 8-1.
Tavia Hausman got the rally started in the second inning with a one out, solo home run to make it 1-0.
Lexi Schwartz got the rally going again by reaching on an error. Her courtesy runner, Emma Breland, advanced to second on Reganne Henning’s single.
Lener’s sacrifice bunt attempt was mishandled by Bennington, loading the bases with one out.
Aden’s two-RBI single made it 3-0 and Whitney Schwisow followed that up with a three run home run to make it 6-0.
Bennington got one run back in the bottom of the second. In the third inning, Hausman and Jaci Berke both singled with one out, putting runners at first and third.
Henning’s sacrifice fly made it 7-1 and after a walk to Leners, Aden’s RBI single made it 8-1, which is what the score would remain.
Barnard pitched the first four innings for Beatrice, giving up one run on one hit while striking out four and walking one. Pangborn pitched two innings and gave up no runs on one hit.
Beatrice had 11 hits in the game. Aden had three singles, two RBI’s and a run scored while Hausman had a home run, a single, an RBI and two runs scored.
Schwisow’s had a home run, three RBI’s and a run scored while Barnard and Lytle had a double each and Ashton Sandman, Berke and Henning had a single each.
Beatrice improves their record to 7-1 on the season and will be in action again this weekend when they play in the Lincoln Public Schools Invitational.
