Darnold’s Status for Pats Unclear

November 22, 2018

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold suited up for practice for the first time since injuring his right foot, but did not participate in team drills as he continues to recover.

Coach Todd Bowles says Darnold is progressing, but is uncertain to play Sunday against New England.

Darnold was injured at Miami on Nov. 4 and sat out the Jets’ previous game against Buffalo on Nov. 11. Josh McCown started in his place and would do so again if Darnold is unable to play.

Darnold was in sweats during the past few practices before Wednesday, but appeared to have no restrictions during light warmups. He did not throw a pass during the 30-minute window the media is allowed to watch.

The No. 3 overall draft pick leads the NFL with a league-leading 14 interceptions and threw just two touchdown passes with seven INTs in the three games before the injury.

Reds close deal with pitcher

Reds closer Raisel Iglesias agreed to a three-year, $24.1 million deal through the 2021 season, avoiding arbitration.

Iglesias was on a seven-year, $27 million contract through 2020 that allowed him to opt for arbitration in 2018. He made $3.2 million last season, when he had a career-high 30 saves in 34 chances and a 2.38 ERA.

Miami boots receiver off team

Leading receiver Jeff Thomas was dismissed from Miami’s football team, the latest blow in a turbulent season for the Hurricanes.

Thomas led Miami with 35 catches and 563 receiving yards this season.

He was also a standout kickoff and punt returner for the Hurricanes, and became the first Miami player in more than two years to run back a punt for a touchdown when he took one in from 51 yards during last week’s win at Virginia Tech.

Freshman Camren Wynter had 22 points, eight rebounds and nine assists -- all season highs -- and Drexel beat Boston University, 86-67, in Philadelphia for its third straight win.

Max Mahoney made 9 of 10 shots for 20 points for Boston University (3-3). He’s the first Terrier player to reach the 20-point mark this season. Tyler Scanlon added 14 points with six assists.
