Majestic Court draws record number of contestants

January 30, 2019

This year, the Majestic Court at Deer Park High School has the most contestants in its 65-year history, coordinator Bridget Winstead says.

Fifty seniors — 25 boys and 25 girls — will compete Feb. 7 for six spots on the court, which is a major fund-raiser for the senior class.

“They were chosen by DPHS faculty and seniors,” Winstead said.

Three male and three female winners will be chosen by judges who will factor in teacher recommendations, interviews and stage presence.

“The judges are past winners and contestants of Majestic Court,” said Weigand, who is the secretary to the pageant advisor, associate principal Tommy Grisham.

In addition, Deer Park ISD spokesman Matt Lucas said, two special spirit-award winners will be chosen by the contestants.

“One is given to a girl and is named after our past retired coordinator of 10 years, Pam Murphey. The boy award is named after John Williamson, who was a high school counselor and longtime Majestic Court advisor/coordinator,” Lucas said.

The boys in the competion include: Coltin Bedford, Dalton DuPont, Hayden Dyson, Dylan Heim, Patrick Hernandez, Nathan Lewis, Bryce Mead, Brandon Meza, Ben Milholland, Brad Milliorn, Andy Moreno, Keith Mosley and Crystian Ortiz.

The other boy contestants are: Jordan K. Phillips, Garett Pineault, Luke Schaper, Troy Sheppard, Caleb Spencer, Jackson Stublar, Nick Trevino, Alexander Truelove, Mason Vaughn, Broc Weidner, Jeremy Yarbrough and Alejandro Zapiain.

The girls include: Ariana Baez, Katerina Coatney, Reychel Demetriou, Haley Dorroh, Samantha Gaspard, Lanie Gullett, Maddie Guzman, Kirsten Lenz, Yolanda Lopez, Michelle Maldonado, Ashley Martinez, Amaya Montano and Emily Pope.\

The other girl contestants are: Paige Potts, Alexa Ramos, Gisell Rodriguez, Leann Scott, Emery Spencer, Bella Stafford, Carolyn Valdez, Phoebe Villarreal, Kiersten Walker, Jasie Williams-Roberts, Anna Wilson and Zoe Zepeda.

Forty students competed in last year’s Majestic Court.

The boy winners were Jimmy Paz, Mateo Saavedra and Connor Williams.

The girl winners were Savannah Anderson, Candis Ortiz and Emily Sample.

The spirit winners were Darby Darden and Noah Hartwell.

Tickets are $10 for the event, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Deer Park High School Performing Ars Center.
