South Point man convicted on rape, kidnapping charges
IRONTON — A South Point, Ohio, man was convicted Friday on charges of rape, burglary, kidnapping and abduction with a gun specification charge.
Frank Thacker, 54, of Township Road 1034, South Point, faces 27 years in prison, said Lawrence County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson.
“We’ll be seeking the maximum sentence,” Anderson said Friday.
The trial started Aug. 27 in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. It was given to the jury before noon Thursday and the guilty verdicts were returned Friday morning, according to Jeff Smith, an assistant county prosecutor.
Judge Andy Ballard, who presided over the trial, set final sentencing for Wednesday, Sept. 5, in Ironton.
The jury returned several innocent pleas in the case. They included innocent verdicts on two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping. The jury deliberated some 10 hours over two days before returning the guilty verdicts.
Thacker, meanwhile, was indicted earlier this year on similar charges stemming from a 1999 case. He was charged in that case with three counts of rape, one count of kidnapping and one count of abduction.
The case had gone unresolved for going on 20 years. The charges from the 1999 case were filed after DNA tests were made in the 2018 case, Anderson said.
That case is set for trial Nov. 7, Anderson said.
