Bengals softball players Emma Bordenkecher, Autumn Pease win weekly Big Sky awards
Idaho State junior outfielder Emma Bordenkecher and freshman pitcher Autumn Pease were named the Big Sky Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their performances last week in home wins over Utah Valley and Portland State.
Idaho State went 4-0 last week, beating Utah Valley 5-0 and 8-6. The Bengals then opened Big Sky Conference play beating Portland State 2-1 in eight innings and 7-6. The final game of the series with Portland State was canceled due to rain.
Bordenkecher hit .727 on the week. She scored five runs, with three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs. She had a slugging percentage of 1.545 and was 2 for 2 stealing bases.
In the 5-0 win over UVU, the Bengal junior was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, two walks and one run. In the 8-6 win over the Wolverines she was 1 for 2, scored two runs, had two RBIs and one walk.
Against Portland State, Bordenkecher was 1 for 3 and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Vikings 2-1. In the 7-6 win she was 4 for 4 with five RBIs, a grand slam and one run.
Pease went 2-0 in 13 innings of work. She allowed four hits, struck out 15 and held opponents to a .098 batting average.
In the 5-0 win over UVU Pease pitched five innings, allowed one hit, one walk and struck out nine. In the 2-1 win over Portland State she went eight innings, allowed three hits, one walk while striking out six. The Vikings hit .120 off Pease.
