Image of Asia: Riding the waves as Australia hit by storms
In this photo by Rob Griffith, a surfer rides a wave close to a wall as he takes advantage of the large surf created by wild weather in Sydney, Australia. Heavy rain and strong winds have battered southeastern Australia for two days. New South Wales State Emergency Services has received about 8,000 calls for help during the storm, and 110 flood rescues have been conducted. The death toll rose to four after a driver’s body was recovered from a car swept into a creek in Maitland, north of Sydney. The winds and rains were easing Wednesday evening, with minor flooding still keeping some roads closed.
