MEXICO CITY (AP) _ Tropical Storm Dalila strengthened to near hurricane force off Mexico's southern Pacific coast Sunday, causing some minor flooding in the state of Chiapas.

A tropical storm watch was declared for the 250-mile coast between Acapulco west and Punta Telmo. A hurricane warning in the same area extended 30 miles westward to Manzanillo.

While Dalila is expected to stay about 125 miles offshore as it skirts the coast, heavy rains associated with the storm caused flash flooding that damaged dozens of homes on the Chiapas coast.

The tropical storm was located about 125 miles southwest of the resort city of Zihuatenejo, and was moving at 70 mph late Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
