Couple Fleeing LA Crime Recovers Goods Stolen in Oregon

July 15, 1994

SALEM, Ore. (AP) _ Oregon wasn’t such a bad place after all for Fred and Sue Trummel.

The couple left the crime-ridden Los Angeles suburbs for a safer life in Oregon. But they lost everything they owned their first night in Salem when their car and rented U-Haul were stolen from a motel parking lot.

Police found the truck and car, but the truck was empty. On Thursday, police found the Trummels’ belongings in a storage unit after the owner became suspicious of the people who rented it.

No suspects have been arrested.

″I’m feeling pretty good,″ Sue Trummel said. ″And I have to hand it to the police. If this had happened in California, I don’t think they would have done anything.″
