GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Michele VanGorp scored 15 points to lead No. 23 Duke to a 69-57 victory over Kent in the opening game of the State Farm Classic on Sunday.

The Blue Devils (8-3) scored the first seven points of the second half to build a 42-31 lead and kill any momentum that the Golden Flashes had built with a late first half run. Kent (4-5) was held scoreless for the first 6:13 of the second half.

Carrie Templin led the Golden Flashes with 21 points and 10 boards.

Payton Black added 11 points for Duke.

Duke used a 18-7 run late in the second half to put the game away. Nicole Erickson capped off the run with a free throw after the Kent bench got called for a technical foul.

The Blue Devils jumped out to 29-14 lead in the first half before Kent went on a run to cut the score to 35-31 at halftime.

Duke will play the winner of the second game between No. 12 Florida and Rhode Island in Monday’s championship game.
